100 years
of Norwegian Aviation History Five years later, the first aircraft came to Norway. In the decades that followed, aviation and nation building blended into each other. Norway was a poor nation of peasant farms with a wild landscape. It was dark and cold, and many people were doubtful about the new flying machines that whooshed past over their heads. Therefore, aviation had a difficult birth in Norway. Conquering the air became a dramatic event.
