Storage Aircraft

SAAB J 32 Lansen

All-Weather Fighter

The first of four Lansen prototypes was flown on November 3, 1952, and the first J 32 B (all-weather fighter) and S 32 C (photographic reconnaissance) took to the air in 1957.

The Saab 32 was a swept-wing attack aircraft, looking like an enlarged Lockheed P-80 with swept wings. Despite its bulk and relatively low power, it was supersonic in a shallow dive. About 450 were built. The Lansen was the backbone of the Swedish attack forces for a long time. The aircraft was, after being withdrawn from frontline duties, converted into ECM and target towing aircrafts.

The stored aircraft is a gift from the Swedish Air Force Museum. It is a J 32 B, c/n 32545. After being decommissioned as a target towing aircraft it was flown to Bodø in August of 1999 destined to be a part of the future Cold War Exhibition.
