The Piper PA-28 Cherokee 140, a 2-seater sports and training plane, arrived on the market in 1964. In 1969, the Cherokee 140B arrived on the scene with a series of improvements, including a new central control panel for gas and fuel control and a new instrument panel with room for IFR instruments. The ventilation system had also been improved and the luggage compartment was bigger. The back seats could also easily be removed thus further increasing luggage capacity. Altogether 10,086 Piper 140 Cherokees were built.

The Museum's Cherokee, c/n 28-20733, was originally registered in Sweden as SE-EOF. It was registered in Norway for the first time as LN-HAK 19-5-65 and was owned by E. Bøhli of Oslo. Subsequent owners included Aircraft Trade A/S, Norrønafly, Oslo, I. Buxrud, Trondheim, Brønnøysund Aero Club and Bodø Aero Club. The aircraft was in use in Bodø between 1983 and 1990, when cracks were found in the wing spars and the aircraft was grounded for good. The savings bank in Bodø donated the plane to Bodø Aviation History Society, who in turn transferred ownership of it to the Aviation Museum.
