Piper PA23-250 Aztec C

Twin-engine Executive Transport

Piper PA-23 Aztec was a further development of the PA-23 Apache. The Aztec, model C, could accommodate six persons compared to the Apaches four to five. First flown in 1958, the Aztec has been modified with upgraded engines and avionics on a regular basis. U.S. Navy designation was UO-1. A total of 4.575 Piper Aztecs had been build by the end of 1978.

Piper Aztec C was introduced in 1964. It was available in a wide range of different models divided in five main types: Basic C, Executive, Professional, Corporate and International. The Basic C had standard equipment including full blind-flying instrumentation. Other models were in addition upgraded with respect to radio- and navigation equipment and auto pilot.

The museum’s Piper PA23-250 C, 27-2538, was built in 1964, as a basic model C. First registered in Sweden as SE-EMG, it was later sold to Norway, LN-AEX as of  08.01.1968. The aircraft certificate of airworthiness expired 09.30.89, and after storing it was donated to The Norwegian Aviation Museum in 1998.
