MiG
15 UTI Midget
Tandem Two-seat Conversion
Trainer
The
prototype MiG-15 was first flown on July 2, 1947. The
power-plant, RD-45F, is a Soviet developed version of the
Rolls-Royce Nene 1 jet engine.
The
MiG-15 UTI is a tandem two-seat training development of the
standard MiG-15 single-seat fighter. A second seat is inserted
aft of the normal seat, taking the place of the main fuselage
fuel tank. In consequence, the MiG-15 UTI is invariably flown
with two underwing fuel tanks in position. The MiG-15 UTI was
the world’s first two-seat swept-wing jet trainer to enter
production. It normally carried no armament, and was employed
by most air forces in the communist world.
