CESSNA L-19 Bird Dog

United States, reconnaissance/communications

The Cessna L-19 Bird Dog was developed for the US Army as a light reconnaissance and observation aircraft for the artillery. It could also be employed as a liaison and training plane. The first order of 418 planes for the US Army was placed in 1950.

Between 1960 and 1968, the Norwegian Airforce acquired a total of 27 Bird Dogs. The aircraft were deployed at the various artillery divisions whose headquarters were at Sætermoen in the north, and Haslemoen, Solør in the south. The aircraft were gradually worn out and in 1992, the Field Artillery O.P. service was closed down.
