AircraftPiper L-18C Super Cub
United States, light liaison aircraft
In 1941, the U.S. Army ordered prototypes from Aeronca, Piper and Taylorcraft. They wanted a small aircraft suitable for artillery observation and liaison. To start with, an order was placed for 40 Piper Cub O-59's. Subsequently, no less than 7000 different versions of the Cub were made. In 1942, the designation "O" for Observation was altered to "L" for liaison.
16 Piper L-18-C Super Cubs were brought to Norway for use by the Field Artillery OP service (1955). After the pilots had been trained at Værnes, the aircraft were distributed to the various artillery divisions.
