Junkers JU-88 A-4

Germany, light fast bomber

The development of the Ju-88 began in 1936. Altogether 14,780 of them were built. The Ju-88 can be regarded as Germany's equivalent of the Mosquito. These were two of the most versatile aircraft in use during World War II. The Ju-88 was designed as a high speed bomber. Gradually, different versions were built and adapted to most operative aviation tasks, dive bombing, reconnaissance, night and day fighters, anti-tank aircraft.

The Ju-88 A-4 was given a greater wing span and stronger landing gear. This version was designed as a bomber. During the war, a number of squadrons in North Norway were equipped with these aircraft in order to attack shipping in the Arctic Ocean. The Ju-88 was still in production when the war ended in 1945.
