Avro 504

United Kindom, basic trainer, two pilots in tandem

When Alliott Verdon Roe unveiled the AVRO 504 in 1913, he hoped to obtain orders for 6 aircraft. By 1932, over 10,000 had been built. During the First World War, the AVRO 504 was largely used for flight training purposes. After the war, it was frequently used at air displays and for sightseeing flights because of its exceptional airworthiness.

Norway procured two AVRO 504?s as flight practice planes in 1919, and two more in 1920. A fifth was later to arrive as a gift from Roald Amundsen. The AVRO 504 was in active service in the Army Airforce until 1930.
