AircraftSaab 91B Safir

The SAAB Safir was in production between 1946 and 1966. There were four different versions of the aircraft, and altogether 320 of them were built, including all four versions. 200 were sold to about 20 different countries where they were used for both civilian and military purposes including flight training, liaison operations and club flights. A number of countries used the Safir for their basic pilot training, in both the civilian and military sectors.
The Airforce purchased 30 SAAB Safirs as replacements for the Fairchild Cornell. Most of them were in use at the aviation school, but some had been deployed at air bases as liaison planes. In 1982, the Safirs were replaced by the MFI 17 Safari.
